Senegal and Eni sign deal to evaluate five offshore oil blocks
Senegal and the Italian energy group Eni have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to evaluate the oil and gas potential of five offshore blocks. The agreement, signed in Dakar, aims to strengthen knowledge of the Senegalese sedimentary basin and encourage international investment in the upstream oil sector.
Under the protocol, Eni will conduct a program of studies and technical analyses at its own expense. This work will focus on analyzing 2D and 3D seismic data, as well as available well data, to assess the hydrocarbon potential of the deep and ultra-deep water areas. The partnership also includes technical exchanges, specialized workshops, and knowledge transfer actions.
The initiative aligns with the administration of President Bassirou Diomaye Faye to optimize natural resources and ensure a continuous pipeline of exploration projects following the recent commencement of production at the Sangomar field. The national company, PETROSEN, is expected to play a central role in the development and promotion of the basin.
