Senegal and Guinea leverage natural resources for economic growth
Senegal has entered a new energy era following the production launch of the Sangomar and Grand Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) oil and gas projects. To maximize these resources, the country is focusing on four strategic priorities: transforming hydrocarbons into industrial value, building a gas master system, strengthening national capacities, and ensuring strategic continuity to drive economic transformation.
In Guinea, the Simandou iron ore project has contributed to a record increase in foreign exchange reserves, which have reached $1.5 billion according to the Central Bank of the Republic of Guinea. Central Bank Governor Karamo Kaba noted that the project is consolidating the country's external balances. To manage this influx, authorities aim to prevent inflationary pressures by adjusting domestic resources and reinvesting mining revenues into productive sectors such as agriculture, tourism, and energy.
