Senegal and Guinea probe former officials over alleged misconduct

In Senegal, former minister Thierno Lô, now head of the board of the national railway asset‑management agency, is under investigation for alleged defamation and spreading false information after claiming that Mary Teuw Niane, a minister and presidential chief of staff, had secretly approached ex‑president Macky Sall to support his UN secretary‑general bid. He was summoned by Dakar’s urban police on 19 May, but his hearing was postponed due to a family death.

In Guinea, special prosecutor Alphonse Charles Wright announced an investigation into former budget‑ministry payroll chief Abou Diallo over the management of the 2010 payroll file, the origins of his assets and alleged involvement in mining enterprises. Wright stressed the need to respect Diallo’s fundamental rights and clarified that the detention period starts from the 19 May filing, stating, “au regard des circonstances non élucidées de son arrestation”. The probe is being led by substitute prosecutor Ousmane Sano.
