Senegal and Mali launch initiatives to promote domestic tourism

West African nations Senegal and Mali are launching initiatives to promote domestic tourism and strengthen local economies.

In Senegal, the Agence Sénégalaise de Promotion Touristique (ASPT) has partnered with Elton Oil Sénégal to promote the Sine-Saloum destination. The partnership included a discovery trip to the Saloum archipelago, specifically highlighting eco-friendly accommodation at the Keur Papaye hotel in Dionewar. The initiative aims to encourage Senegalese citizens and residents to explore national heritage and support local eco-responsible infrastructure.

In Mali, the government has designated September as ‘Tourism Month’ under the theme ‘Internal tourism, a vector for promoting the local economy and strengthening patriotism.’ Presided over by Minister Mamou Daffé, the program ‘Malians visit Mali’ seeks to connect citizens with the country’s cultural, historical, and natural sites. The initiative is designed to create opportunities for local artisans, hoteliers, restaurateurs, and guides by encouraging the consumption of local products and services.
