Senegal and Mauritania launch regional coordination for Senegal River Valley development

Senegal and Mauritania have established the Regional Coordination Committee for the Senegal River Valley Community Resilience and Development Program (PRDC-VFS). The inaugural session was held in Dakar on September 29, bringing together governors, local officials, and representatives from the World Bank and Spanish cooperation.

The initiative aims to transform the Senegal River Valley from a mere administrative border into a shared space for economic integration and prosperity. Supported by the World Bank, the program focuses on strengthening the resilience of border populations against climate change and managing natural resources more effectively.

Key objectives include improving productivity, modernizing infrastructure, and addressing challenges such as water access and the economic inclusion of women and youth. The committee serves as a bilateral framework to harmonize development actions and ensure joint monitoring of interventions along the river, which serves as a vital link for agriculture and hydraulic resource management between the two nations.
