Senegal and Mauritius report rising road fatalities and accidents

Senegal and Mauritius are reporting significant increases in road traffic accidents and fatalities.

In Senegal, data from the National Road Safety Agency (ANASER) shows that 2025 saw 15,407 accidents, resulting in 868 deaths, 5,592 serious injuries, and 9,536 minor injuries. On average, more than 42 accidents occurred daily. The Dakar region was the most affected, accounting for 55.5% of all national accidents.

In Mauritius, the vehicle fleet has grown to 761,531 units. During the first half of the year, 21,845 accidents were recorded, an 11% increase compared to the previous year. Fatalities rose from 58 to 66 during the same period, and the total death toll since January has surpassed 100. In response, the government intends to tighten the Road Traffic Act to address issues such as driving under the influence and dangerous driving.
