Senegal and Morocco update media regulatory leadership
The Presidency of Senegal has launched a call for candidates to fill twelve positions within the college of the National Media Regulatory Council (CNRM). To ensure high professional standards, the administration of President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has established a minimum academic requirement of a Master’s degree (Bac+5). The search targets experts in audiovisual communication, online press, content creation, written press, media law, and information technologies. The new college also aims to include representatives from various societal groups, including women's associations, the Senegalese Youth Advisory Council, and organizations for persons with disabilities. The deadline for applications is October 5.
In Morocco, Mokhtar Larhzioui has been elected president of the National Press Council (CNP). Larhzioui secured 11 votes, defeating competitor Abdellah Bakkali, who received three votes. This election follows the recent renewal of professional journalist representatives, where 1,681 of the 3,421 registered voters participated. The CNP structure is designed to maintain equal representation between professional journalists and publishers, with seven seats allocated to each category.
