Senegal and Niger implement national literacy and security initiatives

In Senegal, National Education Minister Moustapha Mamba Guirassy has announced a major overhaul of the educational system. The reform focuses on inclusive literacy and bilingualism, utilizing national languages to strengthen national sovereignty. The initiative aims to move beyond basic literacy toward practical employability, teaching skills such as digital tool usage, contract comprehension, and agricultural optimization. A notable example of this approach is a partnership with Nestlé Sénégal to support literacy for female onion producers.

In Niger, the first phase of a national awareness caravan concluded in Dosso. Under the theme ‘Civilians and Militaries, hand in hand against the threats of the enemies of Niger,’ the campaign seeks to foster cooperation between the population and security forces. Officials called on the youth to act as vigilant citizens to support national defense. The event included patriotic performances and discussions regarding the role of social media and smartphones within military environments.
