Algeria and Senegal sign strategic energy partnership

Algeria and Senegal have entered a strategic energy partnership following high-level meetings in Algiers. A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Algerian state energy group Sonelgaz and Senegal's national electricity company, Senelec, to facilitate cooperation in the electricity and gas sectors.

This agreement is designed to support Senegal's 'Gas to Power' strategy as the nation prepares to become a gas producer. The partnership aims to leverage Algerian expertise in electricity production, gas distribution, and technical training. Discussions also included potential collaboration between Senegal's Petrosen and Algeria's Sonatrach regarding hydrocarbon exploration, development, and the transfer of technical skills.

Senegalese Energy and Petroleum Minister El Hadji Abdourahmane Diouf visited Algiers to finalize these arrangements, which are viewed as a step toward South-South cooperation and regional energy integration.
