CAS hears Senegal appeal over 2025 AFCON title dispute

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) held a closed-door hearing in Lausanne, Switzerland, on Thursday, October 8, 2026, to address the legal dispute between the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) regarding the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title.

The dispute stems from the January 18, 2026, final in Rabat, where Senegal initially defeated Morocco 1-0 in extra time. However, CAF's Appeal Board later overturned the result, declaring Senegal to have forfeited the match and awarding a 3-0 victory to Morocco. This decision was based on the temporary departure of Senegalese players from the pitch to protest a penalty awarded to Morocco.

Senegal is appealing to have the decision annulled and to be recognized as the rightful champions. Morocco and CAF are also represented in the proceedings. The arbitration panel, consisting of Gerald Simon, Luigi Fumagalli, and Ulrich Haas, will not issue a verdict immediately following the hearing. Deliberations may take several days or weeks as the panel reviews legal arguments, including expert opinions and video evidence submitted by the Moroccan federation.
