Senegal appoints new interior and higher‑education ministers

President Bassirou Diomaye Faye reshuffled his cabinet, naming veteran civil servant Mouhamadou Makhtar Cissé as Minister of the Interior and Public Security. Cissé, a former Inspector General of State, has previously overseen customs reform and led the national electricity company during a crisis, and his appointment is seen as a move to ensure institutional stability ahead of upcoming elections.

In a separate ceremony, Boubacar Camara took office as Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, succeeding Daouda Ngom. Camara pledged to improve university quality, boost scientific research and promote innovation to support Senegal’s economic development.
