Senegal aquaculture production rises 45% in two years
Senegal has seen a 45% increase in aquaculture production during 2024 and 2025, according to Samba Ka, Director General of the National Agency for Aquaculture (ANA). This growth was highlighted during the Atlantic International Aquaculture Forum in Dakar.
Key drivers for this expansion include the establishment of credit lines for aquaculture promoters, specialized training programs, and improved access to essential inputs such as feed and fingerlings. The Senegalese government is also developing specific regulations to secure and manage the sector.
In 2024, aquaculture produced 2,074 tonnes from 342 farms, creating 3,045 direct jobs. Ousmane Diagne, the Minister Delegate in charge of Livestock, emphasized that the sector is a strategic component of the nation's food sovereignty and employment policies.
