Senegal boosts debt credibility with early Eurobond repayment as IMF reforms loom

Senegal’s Treasury, led by Finance Minister Cheikh Diba, prepaid its Eurobond obligations ahead of schedule. The move was praised by investors and caused immediate tightening of yields on Senegalese bonds, signalling the government’s intent to honour its debt despite a constrained fiscal environment.

An International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission is scheduled to visit Senegal, where officials expect discussions on reforms that could trim social spending and energy subsidies.
