Senegal challenges Morocco's AFCON title win at CAS

The Senegalese Football Federation has escalated its dispute regarding the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The legal battle follows a decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to strip Senegal of the championship and award it to Morocco.

The controversy stems from the final match, specifically a late penalty awarded to Morocco and the subsequent protest by Senegalese players who briefly walked off the pitch. Fouzi Lekjaa, head of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), stated that the players' actions constituted a violation of football rules. He noted that recent FIFA regulation changes, which penalize players for leaving the field, support Morocco's position.

A preliminary hearing at CAS is scheduled for October 8, 2026. This session will initiate the proceedings, but a final verdict will require further deliberations and multiple sessions.
