Senegal commits to settling domestic debt with private sector
Senegal is implementing a plan to settle its domestic debt owed to the private sector. Amadou Tidiane Gaye, Director of Public Accounting at the Treasury, clarified that the issue stems from a temporary cash flow crisis rather than a fundamental solvency problem.
Following an audit by the General Inspectorate of Finance (IGF) to establish the exact amount owed, the government has accelerated its budgetary efforts. The allocation for debt repayment has increased from 300 billion FCFA last year to 500 billion FCFA in the 2026 finance law, with the goal of mobilizing these funds before the end of the fiscal year.
