Senegal Court of Accounts launches audit of civil registration in 74 communes

The Senegalese Court of Accounts announced a thematic audit of civil‑registration services in 74 communes, covering the 2018‑2025 period. The mission, launched on 28 July 2026 in Rufisque, targets 59 communes previously examined by the Court and 15 municipalities selected after a risk assessment, including Dakar, Rufisque and towns such as Fann‑Point E‑Amitié, Ouakam, Wakhinane Nimzatt, Thiaroye‑sur‑Mer and others.

The audit aims to verify compliance with legal and regulatory provisions, assess the efficiency and quality of services for births, marriages, deaths and related acts, and improve the reliability of civil‑record keeping. It follows recent alerts about document‑falsification scandals in some local administrations. The launch ceremony was attended by interim president of the Chamber of Territorial Collectivities Amadou Ba Mbodji, sector chief Ahmadou Lamine Kébé, reporting adviser Babacar Guèye and Rufisque mayor Oumar Cissé, underscoring the state’s commitment to strengthen local governance and reduce costs for citizens.
