African basketball teams advance in FIBA 2027 World Cup qualifiers
The fourth window of the FIBA 2027 World Cup African Qualifiers has concluded, with several national teams positioning themselves for the tournament in Qatar.
In Group F, Senegal has reclaimed the top spot following a dominant 97-71 victory over Mali at the Dakar Arena. This win, combined with a previous victory against Angola, places Senegal at the top of the group alongside Ivory Coast, both holding 16 points. Meanwhile, Ivory Coast suffered a significant 91-70 loss to Angola, leaving them in a competitive race for qualification.
In Group E, Guinea has revitalized its campaign with a commanding 90-67 win over Cameroon. Despite missing key players Alpha Diallo and Hamidou Diallo, the Syli Basket secured two wins and one loss during this window, moving to 15 points and sitting just one point behind the group leader, Cameroon.
Other notable results include Nigeria's 100-84 victory over Cape Verde, which keeps their qualification hopes alive, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo's struggles in Dakar, where they suffered consecutive losses to Angola and Mali, leaving them at the bottom of their group. The next qualifying window is scheduled for February 2027.
