Senegal Deploys 350 Troops to Secure Border with Guinea

Operation "Salémata 2026" concluded on Thursday after a five‑day deployment of more than 350 Senegalese soldiers and about 40 vehicles along the Senegal‑Guinea frontier. Under the command of Colonel Simon Sarr, the troops visited the border towns of Oubadji, Dakatéli, Salémata and Dar Salam, distributing medicines, food and other aid to local populations while reinforcing security and coordination with Guinean forces. Lieutenant‑Colonel Moussa Diouf, commander of the 34th Infantry Battalion, said the mission aimed to strengthen security, build ties with local officials and carry out civil‑military projects. The operation follows earlier security enhancements in the Kédougou region, including the April 2026 inauguration of three GARSI‑2 support points in Saïensoutou, Moussala and Médina Bafé.
