Senegal deploys 618 troops to The Gambia for ECOWAS mission

Senegal has deployed its 10th military contingent to The Gambia as part of an ECOWAS mission aimed at supporting the country’s stabilization process. The deployment consists of 618 military personnel, including 14 women, under the command of Colonel Balla Moussa Mané.

The contingent was formally presented with its national flag on Wednesday, September 9, at the Captain Abdoulaye Ngom Tactical Training Centre in Toubacouta. The ceremony was presided over by Brigadier General Simon Ndour, Chief of Staff of the Senegalese Army. The unit includes a headquarters, a command and support company, a mechanized company, and two motorized companies.

General Ndour emphasized that the mission is an act of support for a friendly nation and noted the direct link between the security of The Gambia and Senegal. He instructed the troops to maintain professionalism, respect Gambian laws, and exercise restraint in their interactions with local communities and authorities.
