Senegal: Dr. Mor Fall calls for balancing elections and social needs

Dr. Mor Fall, a public law researcher at Cheikh Anta Diop University, has called for a balance between maintaining democratic electoral schedules and addressing Senegal's pressing social and economic emergencies.

Regarding the electoral calendar, Fall emphasizes that regular elections and the legal rules governing the transfer of power are fundamental to a functioning democracy. He notes that the current debate must respect the principle of periodic suffrage and the legal framework surrounding potential postponements.

However, Fall argues that institutional debates should not overshadow the immediate needs of the population. He suggests that the government must implement strong measures to address issues such as purchasing power and the living conditions of vulnerable families, asserting that elections are not the sole indicator of a country's democratic quality.
