Senegal education groups call for peaceful school year and union agreement compliance

The National Coalition for Education for All (CNEPT) has issued a call for a peaceful and inclusive 2026-2027 school year in Senegal. CNEPT President Silèye Gorbal Sy urged public authorities, teachers, students, and parents to collaborate to ensure a stable academic environment, aiming to avoid the frequent strikes and industrial actions that have historically disrupted the sector.

CNEPT praised the government's recent efforts, specifically noting an interministerial council that produced 27 directives for the upcoming school year. The coalition also highlighted the need for increased focus on the literacy sub-sector, which it described as a neglected area of the education system, while welcoming the creation of the Head of State's Grand Prix for literacy.

Separately, the Democratic Union of Teachers of Senegal (UDEN) has called on the government to honor all previously agreed-upon commitments and deadlines made to teacher unions. UDEN Secretary General Pape Abdoulaye Diallo emphasized that respecting these agreements is essential for maintaining trust between the government and educators.
