Senegal expands Social Security Grant to 355,013 households

Senegal’s Social Security Grant (BSS) has reached a new milestone, with the General Delegation for Social Protection and National Solidarity (DGPSN) announcing that 355,013 households are now enrolled in the program. Among these beneficiaries are 64,217 individuals living with disabilities.

Established in 2013, the BSS provides quarterly monetary transfers to vulnerable families registered in the National Unique Registry (RNU). For the current session, each beneficiary household will receive an allocation of 35,000 CFA francs. The program aims to cover essential needs such as food, education, and healthcare, often requiring families to adhere to conditions like child school attendance and vaccination schedules.

To ensure the equitable rotation of public resources, a 2023 decree established a five-year limit for program participation. This measure is intended to allow resources to reach a broader range of the most vulnerable populations. The program has seen significant inclusion in rural regions such as Kaffrine, Kolda, Matam, and Tambacounda.
