Senegal explores sustainable aviation fuel production

Senegal is advancing its potential in the sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) sector following a feasibility study presented in Dakar. Supported by the European Union and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) through the ACT-SAF project, the study identified several local raw materials suitable for SAF production, including sugarcane molasses, typha, cashew apple, neem, and jatropha.

The National Civil Aviation and Meteorology Agency (ANACIM) aims to use these findings to establish a structured national industry and a favorable regulatory framework. This initiative is part of a broader strategic push toward green industrialization and energy transition. Senegal has set a target to reach 40% renewable energy in its energy mix by 2030, leveraging existing solar and wind infrastructure to drive economic transformation.
