Senegal falls behind Morocco in latest FIFA rankings amid CAF dispute

The latest FIFA world rankings have placed Senegal behind Morocco, a development that comes amid heightened tensions between the two nations. This ranking update follows legal proceedings at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, Switzerland, regarding the title of the last Africa Cup of Nations (CAN).

While Senegal won the tournament on the pitch, the title was awarded to Morocco following a controversial decision by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). Senegal is contesting the regularity of the procedure, raising concerns about the composition of the jury and the quorum used during deliberations.

Beyond the sporting dispute, relations have been strained by the imprisonment of 18 Senegalese supporters in Morocco. The ranking controversy adds further friction to an already complex diplomatic and athletic rivalry.
