Senegal Fisheries Minister tours Saint-Louis and Bokhol

Senegalese Minister of Fisheries and Maritime Economy, Amy Mara Dièye, is conducting a working tour in the Saint-Louis and Bokhol regions from August 12 to 15, 2026. The visit focuses on revitalizing artisanal fishing and advancing aquaculture projects, aligning with a national strategy to transform the maritime economy into a strategic hub.

In Saint-Louis, the ministerial delegation is scheduled to visit several fishing docks and fish product transformation sites, including Gokhou Mbath and Guet Ndar. The tour also includes a stop at the Regional Fisheries Service to distribute vests to the local artisanal fisheries committee. In Bokhol, the Minister is expected to inaugurate a feed manufacturing plant (UFA), launch the Aqua Jef Project, and officially kick off the Dakar 2026 International Aquaculture Fair (SIAq-Dakar 2026).

During the visit, local stakeholders, including Yaram Fall of a local development group, have highlighted the economic importance of women fish processors. These workers are calling for formal legal recognition of their profession, improved social protection—including retirement and accident coverage—and better production equipment to meet traceability standards and increase income.
