Senegal prepares for Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games
Senegal is finalizing preparations for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG), scheduled to take place from October 31 to November 13 across Dakar, Diamniadio, and Saly. To support the event, the national transport company Dakar Dem Dikk will provide 184 high-standard buses for athlete and official shuttles across 12 special lines.
Qatar has bolstered the logistics and security framework by donating 15 buses and various security equipment, drawing on expertise from the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. Additionally, President Bassirou Diomaye Faye inaugurated the 15th fire and rescue company in Diamniadio. This new facility is tasked with protecting competition sites, accommodation, and transport routes during the Games, while providing long-term security for the expanding urban pole.
The Senegalese national delegation, consisting of 136 athletes competing in 23 disciplines, has arrived at their base camp in Guéréo. While the official ceremony to hand over the national flag to the delegation was postponed, the athletes are utilizing the specialized sports complex in the Thiès region to prepare for the upcoming competitions.
