Senegal healthcare collective demands action after viral hospital neglect video

A viral video from Guédj Hospital in Rufisque has sparked widespread indignation regarding the quality of patient care in Senegal. The footage shows an agitated adolescent waiting for emergency care in a hospital hall while medical staff were reportedly having dinner.

The collective ‘Patients en danger’ has condemned the incident as ‘inadmissible,’ calling on the Minister of Health and Public Hygiene, Dr. Ibrahima Sy, to take responsibility. Nina Penda Faye, a member of the collective, emphasized that healthcare is a fundamental right and criticized the recurring instances of medical negligence that force citizens to use social media to seek attention for their grievances.

The collective is demanding improved organization, better patient orientation, and increased professionalism among healthcare workers to ensure appropriate reception and treatment for all users.
