Senegal healthcare faces systemic risks and infrastructure developments
Senegal's healthcare sector is facing significant challenges, according to Mballo Dia Thiam, secretary general of SUTSAS. Thiam has warned that the country faces the risk of diphtheria becoming endemic and has called on the government to honor bilateral agreements made in 2022 to resolve social and financial disputes.
Thiam highlighted several systemic issues, including financial difficulties in public health centers, a shortage of specialists, and the impact of heavy rains on facilities like the Philippe-Maguilène Senghor health center in Yoff, which suffers from frequent flooding. He also noted concerns regarding the retention of health and social data.
In a separate development regarding healthcare infrastructure, Alioune Sarr, the mayor of Notto Diobass, inaugurated a new health post in Tattène sérère. The facility, costing 60 million CFA francs, includes 40 million CFA francs for construction and 20 million CFA francs for medical equipment. The project is part of the Notto Diobass smart city initiative aimed at improving access to essential services for rural populations.
