Senegal healthcare workers address hospital governance reforms

Members of the Association of Personnel Representatives of Public Health Establishments (ARPEPS) recently convened in Thiès, Senegal, for a training session focused on hospital governance amidst ongoing reforms.

Siméon Ndjing Faye, representing ARPEPS and serving as a personnel delegate for the Ziguinchor Regional Hospital Center, emphasized that successful management reforms require the active involvement and well-being of human resources. He argued that staff should not be mere executors of decisions but key actors in strategic hospital orientations through participatory and inclusive governance.

Faye identified several critical requirements to support these transformations, including the need for adequate resources to meet performance goals. Specifically, he called for modernized technical platforms, reinforced staffing levels, and secured subsidies to ensure quality and safety in patient care. He also stressed that reforms must provide professional development and continuous training rather than increasing pressure or job insecurity for healthcare workers.
