Senegal initiates debt dialogue with external creditors
Senegalese authorities are engaging in a virtual dialogue with external creditors to address the country's debt management. Organized under the auspices of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the meeting on October 6, 2026, serves as an information-sharing session rather than a forum for immediate financial agreements, moratoriums, or IMF disbursements.
The primary objective is to outline Senegal's economic situation, its reform program, and its strategy for debt treatment. This process aims to clarify the composition of the debt, particularly regarding commercial banks and private investors, as bilateral creditors such as China, France, India, Kuwait, Germany, and Japan are already identified. Senegal intends to incorporate its debt treatment into the G20 Common Framework to coordinate public and private creditors.
