Senegal Interior Minister Cissé meets Khalife General Laye in religious dialogue

Senegal's Minister of the Interior and Public Security, Mouhamadou Makhtar Cissé, continued his series of courtesy visits to religious authorities by meeting the Khalife General of the Layène community, Cheikh Mouhamadou Lamine Laye, on 9 July 2026. The visit, conducted ahead of an upcoming trip by the Prime Minister to the Layène community, aimed to secure the religious leader’s prayers for peace, institutional stability and national cohesion.

Cissé stressed that the engagement reflects the government's policy of dialogue and proximity with Senegal’s diverse religious families, following earlier meetings with authorities in Touba and the Archdiocese of Dakar. The ministry reiterated the belief that religious guides are partners in maintaining social harmony and supporting development initiatives.

The encounter underscores the administration’s effort to reinforce state‑religion relations as a cornerstone of national unity.
