Senegal Interior Minister Cissé says religious groups vital for national stability

Senegal's Interior Minister Mouhamadou Makhtar Cissé paid a courtesy visit to Tivaouane, where he met the Khalif general of the Tidianes, Serigne Babacar Sy Mansour. The meeting was part of the minister's tour of religious families aimed at reinforcing cooperation between the state and faith leaders. Cissé emphasized that the complementary roles of government and religious authorities are essential for preserving peace, social cohesion and the country's stability.

During the talks, the Khalif raised security concerns, urging tighter regulation of the popular "Jakarta" motorbikes to curb accidents and related insecurity, and requested the construction of a second police station in Tivaouane to keep pace with the town's growth.
