Senegal Justice Minister Unveils Judicial Reform at UMS General Assembly

At the Union of Magistrates Senegal (UMS) General Assembly in Saly, Justice Minister and Keeper of the Seals Me Moussa Sarr outlined an extensive reform programme for the country’s judiciary. He framed the reforms as a "strategic investment" and pledged a "New Deal Technologique" that will digitise procedures, interconnect courts and modernise infrastructure while keeping technology in the service of judges, not as a substitute for them. Sarr said the budget will be respected and that further resources will be allocated before the end of the year to address court site deficits.

UMS President Cheikh Ba stressed the importance of judicial independence, better working conditions and dialogue with public authorities. Delegations from Morocco, Tunisia, Mauritania and Niger attended, underscoring regional solidarity. Ba called for the preservation of the magistrature’s independence and pledged to defend the interests of Senegalese and foreign judges alike.
