Senegal launches food insecurity response program for 17,200 households
The Senegalese Ministry of Family, Social Action and Solidarity has announced the 2026 edition of the Food Insecurity Response Program (PSA). Supported by the World Bank, the initiative provides a total budget of over 2.3 billion FCFA to mitigate the effects of the lean season on vulnerable populations.
A total of 17,200 households across five departments—Bambey, Salémata, Saraya, Matam, and Goudiry—have been identified for assistance based on the 2026 Harmonized Framework. Each selected household will receive a one-time cash transfer of 135,000 FCFA to cover essential needs.
Payments are scheduled to begin on Friday, October 16, 2026, in Bambey starting at 10:00 AM. The government noted that the program is particularly critical following heavy rainfall during the rainy season, which has weakened the resilience of many households.
