Senegal launches organic economy program with Nexus Group

Senegal’s Ministry of Microfinance and Social and Solidarity Economy has signed a framework agreement with Nexus Group to implement the country’s first organic economy program. Signed in Diamniadio, the initiative aims to align with the ‘Vision Senegal 2050’ policy to build a sovereign, endogenous, and sustainable economy.

The program will initially focus on four structural projects. A key component is the creation of a model mining village in partnership with the Société des mines du Sénégal (SOMISEN). This project seeks to link mining activities with local transformation, youth training, and the financing of productive cooperatives, ensuring mining serves the community rather than just extraction.

Other pillars of the agreement include a decentralized energy project to power transformation units and cooperatives, as well as inter-university cooperation. This academic component will connect Senegalese institutions with Italian and European universities to co-develop degrees and research centers in fields such as responsible mining engineering, inclusive finance, and organic economy.
