Senegal launches TER rail extension to Blaise Diagne International Airport

The Train Express Régional (TER) in Senegal has officially extended its service to the Blaise Diagne International Airport (AIBD), connecting the capital city of Dakar and the Diamniadio urban hub to the country’s primary aviation gateway.

The 19-kilometer extension, which began construction in March 2022, allows travelers to reach the airport from central Dakar in approximately 55 minutes, providing an alternative to heavily congested road routes. The project, managed by the investment agency APIX, cost approximately 420 million euros and was funded by the Senegalese state alongside partners including the Islamic Development Bank, the African Development Bank, the West African Development Bank, and French loans.

While the rail line is operational, some infrastructure work continues in Sébikotane, where the station and a pedestrian bridge are still pending completion. The project also included social support programs in the affected areas, focusing on education, health, water access, and flood prevention.
