Senegal leaders call for economic restructuring and monetary sovereignty

Political leaders in Senegal are calling for structural changes to address the nation's economic and social challenges. Issa Sadio Kanouté, president of the EPS/DOGU NGIR SÉNÉGAL executive bureau, has proposed a two-year economic 'reprofiling' to combat rising living costs and business instability. The party argues that the current economic fragility threatens job security and reduces state revenue, and has called for a collective reflection involving intellectuals and experts to stabilize the country.

Separately, Amadou Gueye, president of UNIS, has criticized Senegal's reliance on the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to manage public debt. Gueye argues that the primary obstacle to monetary sovereignty is not external influence from France or the IMF, but rather an internal deficit of domestic financial expertise. He suggests that African nations lack the 'financial engineers' necessary to design autonomous monetary mechanisms, leading leaders to prioritize the credibility of international partners over structural, independent solutions.
