Senegal Ministry clarifies absence from Lutte TV Awards 2026

The Senegalese Ministry of Youth and Sports has issued a clarification regarding the absence of Minister Djirèye Clothilde Coly from the Lutte TV Awards 2026, held on September 19, 2026. The ministry addressed allegations suggesting a lack of respect for the wrestling sector.

According to an official statement, the minister received no formal institutional invitation to the event. The ministry noted that organizers admitted to only contacting the department through informal channels 48 hours before the ceremony due to uncertainties regarding the event's organization. Consequently, the ministry stated that no participation could have been reasonably scheduled.

The department emphasized the necessity of respecting sports governance frameworks and called for responsibility in public statements. While reaffirming its commitment to wrestling as a national sport and heritage, the ministry warned against the use of disinformation and manipulation to cover for the shortcomings of event organizers.
