Senegal MP Thierno Sall accuses ruling party of blocking power project

Senegalese deputy Thierno Alassane Sall has accused the ruling Pastef majority in the National Assembly of deliberately suppressing the ASER/AEE Power EPC dossier. He claims the project, which would have brought electricity to around 1,600 villages, was kept off the agenda for more than a year and that 37 billion CFA francs were diverted from its intended use.

Sall described the case as a "major scandal" and warned that the majority treats scandals in two ways: some are "silenced at all costs" while others are highlighted for political gain. He called for a thorough parliamentary debate ahead of a plenary session scheduled for 10 August 2026. The Pastef majority has not responded to his allegations in the available information.
