Senegal is advancing various sporting preparations and initiatives. For the 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA) has signed a partnership agreement to provide financial support. Additionally, 80 Senegalese athletes have traveled to China for a two-month intensive training program to prepare for the event.
In basketball, national coach Cheikh Sarr has finalized a 12-player roster for the women’s senior team to compete in the FIBA Olympic pre-qualification tournament in Guadalajara, Mexico. The team is placed in Group B alongside Canada, Mexico, and the Philippines, aiming for a path toward the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. However, reports indicate logistical challenges during the team's travel to Mexico, including issues with medical staff bookings and baggage management.
In other disciplines, Dexx Junior has qualified for the 2026 Esports Nations Cup in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, following successful African qualifiers in EA FC.
