Senegal National Assembly advances bills on special funds and prison healthcare

The Bureau of the National Assembly has declared two legislative proposals admissible, allowing them to proceed to the next stage of the parliamentary process. The proposals will now be submitted to the President of the Republic for a consultative opinion.

The first proposal is an organic law aimed at regulating special funds. This initiative, brought forward by Pastef, seeks to integrate the management and control of these funds into the organic law relative to finance laws. This legislative approach follows a previous attempt that was rejected because it was introduced as an ordinary law rather than an organic one. The new text aims to ensure compliance with constitutional requirements regarding the nature and control of budgetary credits.

The second proposal focuses on healthcare in prison environments. It addresses the access to medical services, sanitary follow-up, and general healthcare management for incarcerated individuals, tackling ongoing challenges regarding medical coordination and service availability in detention centers.
