Senegal National Assembly evaluates culture and tourism policies

The Culture and Communication Commission of the Senegalese National Assembly is conducting a mission from October 8 to 11, 2026, to evaluate public policies regarding culture, communication, tourism, and handicrafts. Led by Commission President Aliou Sène, the parliamentary delegation is visiting the regions of Diourbel and Louga to assess how government policies are being implemented on the ground.

In Diourbel, the delegation met with regional Governor Ibrahima Fall and visited the regional station of Radiodiffusion Télévision Sénégalaise (RTS) and the Diourbel artisanal village. The mission also included visits to significant religious and historical sites, such as the residence of Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba Mbacké, to focus on the preservation of religious heritage.

In Louga, stakeholders in the cultural and tourism sectors highlighted several critical challenges, including a lack of infrastructure, insufficient equipment, and difficulties accessing financing. Other concerns raised by professionals included the need for better training, the legal status of artists, the formalization of activities, and issues surrounding private copying.
