Senegal National Assembly installs Committee for Public Policy Evaluation

The Senegalese National Assembly has officially installed the Committee for the Evaluation of Public Policies (CEPP), marking a significant step in strengthening parliamentary oversight. Although the 2016 constitutional revision granted the Parliament the authority to evaluate public policies, the mandate lacked an operational institutional framework for several years.

During its inaugural meeting on August 21, 2026, the committee elected its leadership bureau. Ousmane Sonko, the President of the National Assembly, was elected as President of the CEPP. The bureau also includes Mohamed Sall as first vice-president, Djimo Souaré as second vice-president, Béatrice Germaine Faye as first secretary, and Adama Diallo as second secretary.

The CEPP is tasked with structuring, conducting, and monitoring parliamentary evaluations to measure the relevance, effectiveness, and results of government policies. The committee is required to evaluate at least two public policies per year and has the authority to hear relevant individuals and consult external experts to ensure rigorous assessment of state programs.
