Senegal National Assembly returns finance law project to government
The National Assembly has returned the 2026 amended finance law (LFR) project to the government due to a procedural disagreement. The dispute centers on the manner in which the document was transmitted to parliament.
According to parliamentary sources, the executive branch submitted the decree related to the budget collective without formally attaching the actual text of the finance law. This omission prevents the conference of presidents from scheduling the examination or referring the matter to the Finance Commission. While the Assembly maintains it returned the file immediately to rectify this procedural error, the government has contested the validity of the reasoning.
The delay occurs amid a period of fiscal tension involving negotiations with the International Monetary Fund, debt trajectory revisions, and energy subsidy reforms. No new date for the legislative examination has been set as the procedure undergoes regularization.
