Senegal officials resign, citing split over Ousmane Sonko
Mor Tallah Gueye announced his resignation as President of the Board of Directors of the FDCUIC, saying he could not remain complicit with a government he views as deviating from the sovereignty and change promised by Ousmane Sonko’s project. His departure follows other recent resignations that reflect a growing rift between supporters of President Bassirou Diomaye Faye and loyalists of the former opposition leader.
Lansana Gagny Sakho, a former close associate of Sonko now serving in the Kiiraay party that backs President Faye, told a radio program that he declined a nomination to head the water and sanitation sector in order to stay true to his principles. He accused Sonko of failing to uphold republican institutions and of contributing to a split at the top of the state, citing alleged attempts to influence the judiciary by installing a more compliant minister.
