Senegal opens new police commissariat in Touba to boost security

Senegal’s Minister of the Interior and Public Security, Mouhamadou Makhtar Cissé, inaugurated the new district police commissariat of Touba Tawfekh on 3 August 2026. The state‑funded building is part of the 2025‑2029 police modernisation plan aimed at densifying the national security network.

The ceremony was attended by Transport Minister Abdou Lahad Ndiaye, Telecommunications Minister Samba Diouf, Police Inspector General Mame Seydou Ndour, a representative of the Khalife général des mourides, local officials and residents. Cissé highlighted Touba’s demographic, economic and religious significance and said the new facility will improve response to delinquency, illicit trafficking, traffic accidents, social tensions and the security of large gatherings such as the Grand Magal.

The commissariat meets modern human‑rights standards and provides improved working conditions for police officers, reinforcing the government’s commitment to strengthen security in the city and across Senegal.
