Senegal's National Assembly sees leadership reshuffle, new deputies and constitutional challenge

Opposition deputies submitted a petition to Senegal's Constitutional Council demanding the reversal of Ousmane Sonko's reinstatement as a deputy, arguing that his simultaneous role as Prime Minister and parliamentary member violates the Constitution.

On 22 June, four new members – Amadou Ba, Momar Talla Ndao, Salimata Dieng and Abass Ndiaye – were sworn into the Assembly as it debated major labour and social‑security reforms. Salimata Dieng, previously a substitute for Marie‑Angélique Diouf, took her seat after Diouf joined the new government.

The same day the Assembly’s Bureau was reorganised: following the resignation of third vice‑president Cheikh Thioro Mbacké, Malick Ndiaye was promoted to first vice‑president, while several other vice‑presidents, secretaries and questors were appointed to broaden representation and gender balance.
