Senegal Parliament Sets Agenda for Asset‑Declaration Reform and New Inquiry Commissions

The Senegalese National Assembly met on Friday and placed several high‑profile reforms on its agenda. Lawmakers intend to amend article 37 of the constitution so that the president must publish a detailed declaration of personal assets both at the start and at the end of the term, expanding the current requirement that applies only at inauguration. The proposal is backed by the ruling Pastef majority and reportedly has the support of President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, who wants the rule to extend to all senior public officials.

In addition, the Assembly will consider legislation on political party financing and is preparing two parliamentary inquiry commissions. The first commission will investigate the state’s built‑in‑property holdings, a subject that has attracted considerable attention in recent months. Officials also discussed the prospect of dissolving the Assembly, though no decision has been taken.

These steps are presented as part of a broader drive to increase transparency and strengthen institutional oversight in Senegal.
