Senegal participates in major African human rights sessions
Senegal has actively engaged in two significant pan-African human rights forums. In Dakar, the 89th session of the African Commission on Human and Peoples' Rights (ACHPR) concluded under the presidency of Cheikh Niang. The session coincided with the 45th anniversary of the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights and the 40th anniversary of the Commission's establishment.
During the ten-day meeting, commissioners, African Union member state delegates, and civil society representatives assessed the status of fundamental rights across the continent. Discussions highlighted progress in protecting public liberties while addressing structural and security-related obstacles. Cheikh Niang reaffirmed Senegal's commitment to implementing the Charter and strengthening the Commission's capacity.
Additionally, a Senegalese delegation led by Mbayang Madjiguène Diop participated in the 48th ordinary session of the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC) in Maseru, Lesotho. The session focused on critical issues including violence against children in digital spaces, the rights of children with disabilities, and the recruitment of minors by armed groups. Senegal used the forum to share its experiences and reinforce its commitment to continental child protection mechanisms.
