West African authorities dismantle livestock, trafficking, and motorcycle theft rings
Authorities in West Africa have dismantled several criminal networks involving theft and trafficking. In Mali, the Diboli railway police disrupted a livestock theft ring operating between Mali and Senegal. Two suspects were arrested near the Falémé River while attempting to transport stolen cattle, and they have been referred to the Kayes Court of First Instance.
In Senegal, the National Division for the Fight against Migrant Trafficking (DNLT) uncovered a human trafficking case in Kédougou. Two Nigerian women were found to be victims of sexual exploitation; they were reportedly forced into prostitution to pay off travel debts of 1.5 million CFA francs each. A suspect was brought to the Kédougou prosecutor's office for organized crime and human trafficking.
In Guinea, security forces in Conakry dismantled a large-scale motorcycle theft and resale ring in Mafanco. Eleven suspects, including a suspected ringleader, were arrested after police discovered several motorcycles that had been modified with changed chassis numbers, replaced parts, and fraudulent documentation to facilitate resale.
